StoreKeeper
STOREKEEPER
The Social House | Nairobi
WE ARE GROWING. HELP US KEEP THE HOUSE STOCKED, CONTROLLED AND READY.
A busy hotel cannot afford to discover at 7.00 p.m. that a critical item is out of stock. Nor can we afford stock sitting unnoticed until it expires, unexplained variances at month end, or products leaving the store without proper accountability.
As The Social House continues to grow, we are strengthening the operational teams behind the guest experience.
We are looking for a seasoned, organised and hands on Storekeeper who knows what is in the store, what is moving, what is running low and what simply doesn't add up.
If you know your stock from your shortages, your LPOs from your GRNs, and can keep a busy hotel store running like clockwork, we would like to meet you.
ABOUT THE SOCIAL HOUSE
The Social House is more than a hotel. We're a collection of experiences, stories and spaces designed to inspire connection.
From our restaurants and vibrant events to our thoughtfully curated guest experiences, we are driven by creativity, culture and exceptional hospitality.
Behind those experiences is an operation that needs the right products, in the right quantities, at the right time.
That is where you come in.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As our Storekeeper, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate control and custody of inventory within the House. Your responsibility does not end with putting products on shelves.
You will monitor stock movement, maintain accurate records, control issues, monitor minimum and maximum levels, support replenishment, participate in stock counts, investigate variances and help ensure that operating departments have what they need without unnecessary overstocking or wastage.
You will work closely with Finance, Procurement, Receiving, Culinary, Food & Beverage and other operational departments.
Your objective is simple:
The right stock. The right quantity. The right place. The right records.
HOW YOU WORK
BE INQUISITIVE
You don't just record numbers.
You question them.
Why is an item moving faster than usual?
Why does physical stock differ from the system?
Why hasn't this product moved?
Why are we repeatedly running out of a particular item?
Why has consumption suddenly increased?
You look beyond the number and try to understand the story behind it.
BE RESOURCEFUL
Hotel operations move quickly.
Stock requirements change. Deliveries can be delayed. An outlet may suddenly require additional supplies.
You think ahead, communicate early and find practical solutions without bypassing controls.
BE EFFICIENT
A well run store should not depend on memory.
Your shelves are organised.
Your records are current.
Issues are documented.
Stock levels are monitored.
Reorder points make sense.
Documents can be retrieved.
You work systematically so that other departments can depend on the information you provide.
BE DETERMINED
You follow discrepancies through.
When physical stock doesn't match the system, “there is a variance” is not where the conversation ends.
You help investigate why.
You follow documentation, transactions and stock movements until there is a reasonable explanation or the matter is appropriately escalated.
BE EXPRESSIVE
Storekeeping requires constant communication.
You work with chefs, outlet teams, Procurement, Finance, Receiving and suppliers.
You communicate clearly, professionally and confidently, particularly when stock is unavailable, documentation is incomplete or a procedure has not been followed.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
STOCK CONTROL & CUSTODY
• Maintain accurate stock records for all items under your custody.
• Ensure stock movements into and out of stores are properly authorised, documented and recorded.
• Maintain appropriate minimum, maximum and reorder levels.
• Monitor stock availability and identify potential shortages before they affect operations.
• Monitor slow moving, non moving and excess stock.
• Monitor products approaching expiry and escalate early enough for appropriate action.
• Ensure stock is correctly identified, arranged and stored.
• Maintain appropriate stock rotation to minimise expiry, deterioration and wastage.
• Safeguard stock against damage, contamination, loss, misuse and unauthorised access.
STOCK ISSUING
• Issue goods only against properly approved documentation and established procedures.
• Verify quantities before releasing goods.
• Record all stock issues accurately and promptly.
• Ensure items issued correspond with authorised departmental requests.
• Maintain clear accountability for every movement of stock.
• Work with departments to understand unusual or urgent stock requirements.
RECEIVING & INSPECTION SUPPORT
• Support the receiving process and verify goods against approved LPOs, invoices and delivery documentation where required.
• Check quantities, specifications, quality, expiry dates and packaging.
• Coordinate with the relevant departments for specialised quality inspections.
• Ensure accepted goods are properly transferred into stores and recorded.
• Identify short supplies, damaged goods, rejected products and other discrepancies.
• Ensure appropriate GRNs and Goods Return Notes are maintained where applicable.
STOCK COUNTS & RECONCILIATION
• Participate in and coordinate scheduled stock counts.
• Conduct regular spot checks and cycle counts where required.
• Reconcile physical quantities against system balances.
• Identify stock variances promptly.
• Investigate discrepancies by reviewing issues, receipts, transfers and supporting documentation.
• Escalate unexplained or significant variances immediately.
• Support Finance during month end inventory reconciliation.
REPORTING & CONTROL
You will:
• Maintain complete and accurate stores documentation.
• Ensure inventory transactions are entered into the relevant system on time.
• Prepare weekly expenditure information and monthly stores reports as required.
• Highlight stock shortages before they disrupt operations.
• Report unusual consumption patterns.
• Highlight significant price changes where identified.
• Report slow moving, obsolete and near expiry inventory.
• Provide accurate stock information to Finance, Procurement and operational departments.
• Maintain documentation that allows transactions to be traced from request through issue or receipt.
HOUSE STANDARDS
Your store should tell us something about how you work.
We expect it to be:
Clean.
Secure.
Organised.
Clearly labelled.
Easy to count.
Easy to audit.
You will maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, organisation and security throughout all storage areas.
Goods must be stored appropriately according to their nature and storage requirements.
Access must be controlled.
Stock should not be left lying around simply because the day became busy.
THE DETAILS MATTER
Strong Storekeepers develop an instinct for asking:
What do we have?
How much should we have?
Where is it?
Who requested it?
Who approved it?
What was issued?
What is running low?
What isn't moving?
What is approaching expiry?
Why is there a variance?
If you enjoy knowing the answers to those questions, you may be exactly who we are looking for.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
You should bring:
• At least 3+ years of relevant Storekeeper experience, preferably within a hotel, restaurant or hospitality operation.
• A Degree or Diploma in Purchasing & Supplies Management, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Procurement, Business Administration, Hospitality Management or another relevant discipline.
• Good practical knowledge of inventory control and stock management.
• Experience with receiving, storage and issuing procedures.
• Experience working with LPOs, GRNs, requisitions, invoices and stock documentation.
• Hands on experience using materials or inventory management systems.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
• Strong numerical ability.
• Ability to reconcile physical stock against system records.
• Strong planning and organisational skills.
• Good analytical and problem solving capability.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Sound judgement and common sense.
• Good written and verbal communication.
• Ability to work with Finance, Procurement, Culinary, Food & Beverage and other operational teams.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast paced hospitality environment.
• Willingness to work hands on within stores and receiving areas, including handling and moving goods where required.
THE NON NEGOTIABLE: INTEGRITY
The Storekeeper has custody of company assets.
That requires trust.
We therefore expect a high level of honesty, accountability and personal responsibility.
Stock should never leave the store without appropriate authorisation.
Records should reflect what actually happened.
Variances should never be hidden.
Documents should never be changed to make numbers balance.
Unauthorised persons should not have uncontrolled access to stock.
And when something doesn't look right, we expect you to speak up.
Good stock control starts with personal integrity.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
Attention to Detail
You notice differences in quantities, descriptions, documentation and physical stock.
Numerical Accuracy
You are comfortable counting, calculating and reconciling inventory.
Inventory Control
You understand stock levels, movements, replenishment, issues and reconciliation.
Analytical Thinking

You understand that inventory is company property and treat it accordingly.
YOU WILL PROBABLY ENJOY THIS ROLE IF...
You like organised spaces.

You can look at a shelf and immediately notice something unusual.
You don't wait until an item reaches zero before raising the alarm.
You enjoy investigating differences between physical and system stock.
You are comfortable asking questions.
You follow procedures even when operations are busy.
You don't issue stock simply because someone says:

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
We will know you are succeeding when:
• Physical stock consistently aligns with system records.
• Stock variances are minimised and investigated promptly.
